A cPanel license is a subscription that unlocks the WHM/cPanel software. It gives you an intuitive dashboard to handle hosting, emails, DNS, security, and server settings—making server management much easier.

cPanel provides several options: Solo (1 account), VPS (up to 30 accounts), Dedicated (100+ accounts), and Cloud/Cluster. Each plan varies based on the number of accounts and supported environments.

Licenses can be purchased directly from cPanel’s official site or through an authorized partner. Pick the license type, select your billing plan, and once payment is done, the license will be linked to your server’s IP.

Sign in to WHM as root, go to “Server Configuration → Server Information,” and use “Change License” to add your key. In most cases, the license is automatically detected and applied via your server’s IP address.

If your license runs out, WHM/cPanel will switch to read-only mode and new accounts can’t be created. Renewal notices are sent via email—renew through cPanel’s portal or your reseller to restore normal access instantly.
